Parentage: A product of mass selection, cultivated over time directly from wild forms.

Fetească Neagră is cultivated mainly in the wine-growing regions of Muntenia and Oltenia Hills, Moldavian Hills, Banat, Crișana and Maramureș, Dobrogea Hills, the Danube Terraces, and the Transylvanian Plateau. Fetească Neagră is also one of the most widely cultivated varieties in the Republic of Moldova.

Area planted with Fetească Neagră in Romania: 2,971.9 ha.

Area planted with the variety in the Republic of Moldova (registered in the RVV as of 30 December 2023): It ranks 3rd among indigenous varieties in terms of planted area, covering 424.2 ha, including 202.71 ha registered for the production of wine products with PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) status.

This variety can produce both exceptional rosé wines and red wines suitable for ageing in quality oak and subsequently in bottle, resulting in high-quality wines with pronounced varietal typicity.

Aromatic profile: aromas of wild berries, sour cherries, dried plums, and black raisins, with subtle spicy notes reminiscent of cinnamon, black peppercorns, allspice, and vanilla. With ageing, the aromatic profile becomes richer and more refined.
